Books

I do love to read, and wish I could devote more time to it. What I end up doing is reading a few books at a time, some I finish, some I don’t. Here’s what I’m working right now…

Intentions for the new year.

As we move in to the new year now is the time to let go of all that no longer serves us. A time for positive change in our thoughts and in our actions. And so, I can’t think of a better way to start the new year with a mantra from the Dalai Lama:

Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

Follow the three R’s: Respect for self, Respect for others and Responsibility for all your actions.

Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.

Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

Spend some time alone every day.

Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.

A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.

In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.

Share your knowledge. It’s a way to achieve immortality.

Be gentle with the earth.

Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.

Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.

Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

I also know that dreams really do come true and you have my Best Wishes and my best efforts in those.

Where does the time go?

Summer is gone and Fall is upon us! Since sending my children back to public school in September I couldn’t ignore the nagging feeling of something being off. I geared myself up for the usual “grind” with a heavy heart. The thought of running around on a schedule dictated by someone else, of the afternoons (sometimes late evenings) filled with homework and stress, little time for us to just be together and play, just didn’t feel good. So after much research, and debate, I pulled my kids out of school. It is a daunting task, stepping out into the unknown. At times scary, though often exhilarating, I don’t doubt for a second that I made the right choice. I look forward to this new year with a new enthusiasm, excited to learn alongside my children, in a relaxed and nurturing environment. Will we hit bumps along the way? Most likely. They say children are our best teachers. I’m ready to begin.

“Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. When we really listen to people there is an alternating current, and this recharges us so that we never get tired of each other. We are constantly being re-created.”

It’s family vacation time for the Abeyta clan! We’ll be on the road enjoying the beautiful sights of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. No need to miss your yoga while I’m away…Ed Dunbar will be subbing for me at Alive & Well in Hermosa Beach at my regular scheduled times. Sadly, there will be no class at Soultree Motion August 7th & 14th, nor will there be class at Carson Community Center August 9th. I’ll see you when I get back! Sat Nam!
